Glen Cove InterAgency Council January Meeting

On Wednesday, January 13, 2010, the InterAgency Council of Glen Cove held their monthly membership meeting at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Highland Road. Rev. Michael Ralph, the new Pastor at St. Paul’s, was honored to welcome the members of the IAC with a tour of the church and its property. Reverend Ralph gave the group an overview of the history of St. Paul’s, which celebrated its 175th anniversary just last year. St. Paul’s is certainly active in the Glen Cove community, offering space for group meetings such as Weight Watchers, AA, Girl Scouts, yoga classes, dance classes and “Spanish As A Second Language” lunchtime learning sessions. St. Paul’s is also known for its Nursery School, now run under the direction of Carolyn Guise who has seen the program expand since she came on staff. The Nursery School offers programs for children ages 18 months through three years old, including a new Extended Day Pre-Kindergarten Program. St. Paul’s is fully equipped with classrooms, a library and a brand new technology room that houses 10 new donated computers. They offer a full variety of programs at reasonable prices.
This month, Legislator Diane Yatauro was invited to serve as the IAC’s special guest speaker. The Minority Leader of the Nassau County Legislature, Diane Yatauro spoke on the recent changes to our local government following the November election. The IAC, which is composed of human and social service providers from throughout Glen Cove and the surrounding communities, is particularly interested in how the turnover in the Legislature and County Executive’s Office will affect their ability to receive continued funding at current or increased levels. The minority leader also touched on an update of how stimulus money is flowing to Long Island. Legislator Yatauro concluded with thanking the IAC for inviting her. She said, “You are a cohesive organization with legs.” Expressing admiration for the IAC, she continued, “You are asking for help to serve. This Council is important to our City. You are people movers. Think of how many people you touch.”
