IAC Announces the Results of Annual Planning SessionAt the all-day annual planning session of the Glen Cove Interagency Council (IAC) held at the Praise Academy in Glen Cove, representatives of member agencies met to plan future strategies, hear reports from committee chairs, and reaffirm their collaborative mission established in 1998. While each agency operates autonomously, their collaboration as a group offers a more comprehensive, quality-based, delivery of human services to the Glen Cove Community.Dr. Daniel Vogrin, president of the Board of Directors welcomed everyone and introduced Patricia Sparks, Human Services Consultant and Planning Session facilitator. He next introduced the committee chairs who gave their annual reports. They are: Dr. Susan Moor, Communication; Victoria Crosby, Fund Development; Pat Branco and Robert Savitt, Legislative; Arlene O'Dell, Membership; Georgie Connett, Technology (interim) and Tina Hament, Trends. One of the first projects proposed at the Planning Session was a desire to increase awareness of the IAC in the Glen Cove community. To this end, this is the first of four articles planned to showcase the services of some of the 48 member agencies. Children, Youth and Family Service organizations were represented by the following members: Top row: Pat Blanco, executive director of La Fuerza Unida De Glen Cove, Inc., which provides: Free Tutorial Services for elementary school children, Support Social Services to their families and the new immigrants' housing and related services. Neighborhood Preservation and Development. Next row (left): Victoria Crosby, Director of GC Mentoring Program, offers Volunteer Mentors who are matched with youth to be a friend and positive role model. (right) Dr. Susan Moor, Director of Guidance at GC School District, Education services K-12, Parent Involvement Programs and Parenting Skills Workshop. Front row (left) Glaudia Pagan, Nassau County Council of Girl Scouts, Leadership Training for Girls. (Center) Juan Castro, executive director, Glen Cove Youth Board, offers: Leisure Time Activities, Employment, Outreach, Mentoring, Tutoring, Referrals, Adolescent Wellness Center, Family Services and Advocacy. And Robert Savitt, assistant director, Behavioral Health Service, North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove, offers: Addiction Treatment, Drug Free Outpatient Program, Intensive Outpatient Opiate Detoxification, Adolescent Services Unit, Women's and children's Program, Dual diagnosis continuing treatment day program. Inpatient detoxification program, Acupuncture, Adolescent Wellness Center. The Planning Session was coordinated by Georgie Connett, consultant to the IAC and funded by a Nassau County Youth Board Collaboration Grant and the generosity of Barbara Southard, Praise Academy. The agencies to be showcased next week will be those in Early Education and Child Development. |
