Congregation Tifereth Israel Hosts IAC MeetingMembers of InterAgency Council of Glen Cove, Ltd. (IAC) gathered for their monthly meeting at Congregation Tifereth Israel recently. Dr. Daniel Vogrin, president of IAC opened the meeting by inviting Rabbi Jonathon Kohn to give the membership some background on the Synagogue. Tifereth is the oldest congregation on Long Island, celebrating 105 years. The conservative congregation started out in 1897 as an orthodox congregation on the site of the present-day Baptist Church. He explained there are still remnants of its original decor there to this day. The present site offers the community a myriad of services apart from its religious services and education including: a nursery school, adult education and a social action component. Last September, Rabbi Kohn relocated to Long Island from Houston. Since arriving in Glen Cove, he has chosen to first observe the community, to then become more familiar with it, and he looks forward to being involved in both the community-at-large as well as IAC. Dr. Vogrin justified some of IAC's success as the result of the Youth Board's ongoing support. Carol Sucharski introduced the membership to a Glen Cove Youth Board Survey as well as distributing copies. It was also pointed out that the Survey can also be accessed via IAC's website. www.iacglencove.org Carol urged everyone to participate in the survey and to encourage others they meet to do the same. A grant application for funding for the formation of a multi-cultural Teen of Glen Cove Association (TOGA) was submitted to Catholic Health Services. The program coordinator, Chris Morris, briefed the membership on the collaborative concept of the grant request proposed by Victoria Crosby and requested under the IAC 501 c 3. Decisions from AOLTimeWarner and CDA for requested funding for technical computer training for IAC are still pending.
