The InterAgency Council of Glen Cove, Ltd. (IAC) held its May 5 monthly meeting at the Robert M. Finley Middle School. Dr. Susan Moor, director of guidance, hosted the meeting and welcomed, as presenters, an outstanding group of students, members of CAUSE. The class participates in a variety of activities with the goal of “Making a Difference.” This extraordinary group of students each articulated their experiences as a CAUSE member. How the involvement and contributions they have made to the community has enhanced their own life. They unanimously gave credit for the success of the program to CAUSE’s teacher, Ms. Susan Poulos, for her exemplary guidance and support.

Following the CAUSE presentation, Dr. Moor gave an overview of many of the school’s highlights and touched on the scholarship program, indicating that 25 % of the graduating class receives scholarships. She also spoke of the thirty-four clubs offered by the school and proudly stated that 85% of the student body participates in clubs or sports activities.

Dr. Moor introduced Dr. Freeley who provided the membership with an update on the school’s current status. She spoke of the on-going refurbishing program; starting in September, there will be a 9- period day for all middle school students; a “Science Research” program with new faculty will emulate science programs at other schools; additional computer access; and fourth grade scores are up, crediting teacher coaching for this improvement. Dr. Freeley concluded her presentation by explaining her move to the Malverne school district as of July 20, as “going home” having taught at there in the past.
