Senator Carl Marcellino received a warm welcome and a rousing round of applause when he visited the Glen Cove Senior Center, a member of InterAgency Council of Glen Cove, (IAC) at lunch time recently. The occasion called for him to accept the appreciation from the senior citizens who frequent the Center for his funding two defibrillators. These lifesaving devices are credited with saving lives when utilized immediately on someone identified as suffering a heart attack. Precious minutes are frequently lost to heart attack victims as they wait for emergency personnel to arrive. St. Francis Hospital trained fifteen members of the Senior Center staff in the use of the defibrillators. Staff will be able to initiate the procedure while waiting for emergency personnel. The Senator in his remarks held the red square box and stated, “I hope this box never needs to be opened,” which drew further applause from the senior citizens.
