Glen Cove, NY…InterAgency Council of Glen Cove’s will welcome Diane Yatauro, Nassau County Legislator to its monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 8 at Page One Restaurant at 9 a.m. IAC is a membership organization with a mission statement as follows: The primary mission of IAC is to enhance the delivery of human services through collaboration and communication, and to provide mutual support among community agencies through sharing and networking. A recent IAC meeting was hosted by the Glen Cove Senior Center. Speakers included: Kate Anastasia from the Health and Welfare Council of Long Island, who provide an overview of the many services offered by the Health and Welfare Council including a local office in conjunction with the City of Glen Cove. Anastasia explained that an appointment can be made by calling 516-489-9278, ext, 428, or walk-ins are welcome on Wednesdays from 1 to 5 p.m. at City Hall, 9 Glen Street. Free Screenings for the Child & Family Health Plus Program is one of many services available.
The second speaker was Jean Hersey, president of the Dr. Alberta Hersey Foundation, who provided a video on the background of the Foundation in which her mother, Dr. Alberta Hersey, played a major role in the establishment of the human service organization some 50 years ago. Working closely with St. John’s of Lattingtown, food, clothing, furnishing and support were provided to all who needed it in the community. Dr. Alberta Hersey was given the honorary doctorate degree from C.W. Post, Long Island University for her philanthropic efforts. Jean Hersey continues her mother’s philanthropic work.
InterAgency Council of Glen Cove was established in 1971 to improve the delivery of human services through cooperation, communication and coordination of community agencies. The original concept for IAC was developed under the auspices of the Community Hospital of Glen Cove as part of a University based community service project. Twenty of the original agencies continue active participation. Monthly meetings are held every second Wednesday of the month September through June at member agency settings.
