Glen Cove, NY…InterAgency Council of Glen Cove welcomed Diane Yatauro, Nassau County Legislator to its monthly meeting on Wednesday, December 8 at Page One Restaurant and honored former IAC vice president Dr. Susan Moor. IAC is a membership organization with a mission statement as follows: The primary mission of IAC is to enhance the delivery of human services through collaboration and communication, and to provide mutual support among community agencies through sharing and networking.
Following a well-attended Holiday breakfast, Dr. Susan Moor was honored for her contributions to the Glen Cove community. The former Director of Guidance for the Glen Cove School District recently retired after 10-years. She held a leadership role in the growth of IAC during the past decade including serving as vice president. In addition, she was involved with Kiwanis. Dr. Moor was presented with citations from Diane Yatauro, Mayor Mary Ann Holzkamp and Nassau County Executive, Thomas Suozzi. Glen Cove Poet, Victoria Crosby, arranged the IAC breakfast and read a poem she wrote for the occasion.
Diane Yatauro, a familiar face to most of the IAC members, provided a comprehensive update on the state of the county. Among the highlights:
• Nassau County under the present leadership has enjoyed a seventh bond rating upgrade in 4 years. It is a commendable turn-around.
• Nassau County will pursue Empire Zoning in 2005, a tax relief program that heretofore Glen Cove was not receiving. New leadership in Albany by recently elected Mr. Lavine should help.
• Robert Turk is the new Gang Intervention czar and it is expected that his leadership will have a positive impact on this critical subject.
• Based on the A-1 approval rating, the county is back on it feet and Quality of Life Issues are on the agenda for the future.
• Specifically, address the deterioration of the county’s parks with a vision and planning.
• “No Wrong Door” the concept of a comprehensive human service collaborative housed in one building (60 Charles Lindbergh Blvd., Uniondale) wherein clients with multiple needs will have them met. Transportation needs are being addressed and the creation of a human services HUB, will save the county 40- millions dollars.
InterAgency Council of Glen Cove was established in 1971 to improve the delivery of human services through cooperation, communication and coordination of community agencies. The original concept for IAC was developed under the auspices of the Community Hospital of Glen Cove as part of a University based community service project. Twenty of the original agencies continue active participation. Monthly meetings are held every second Wednesday of the month September through June at member agency settings. Please check IAC’s website for locations and dates of future meetings as well as agency events, services, locations, and contact personnel.www.iacglencove.org.
